Just seen on the local news that these places are closing, now the unions who are striking at the drop of a hat over preserving their pensions should be fighting tooth and nail to keep these places open.

Unions can't do a thing, never really have been able to stop closures more terms and conditions related issues.

The facotries lost something like £6,000,000 last year, not really sustainable.

How much does it cost the tax payer to keep those who may well never get another job per year...?

    Lose, lose situation really.

I couldn't tell you that but it would cost the tax payer about £22,000 per disabled employee to get the place running even and that would be on top of the DLA and other benefits they are all receiving.

My point exactly, there just seems to be apathy over the closure of these places, not even a whimper of protest.

    Has there ever been...?
Unions should be concentrating on the best deals their members can get and not on flogging a dead horse.

Governments decide to close places, they close, the private sector decides to close places, they close.

There was a fair bit of coverage for it at the time on both the local and national. Only 100 people turned up to the protest.
