Surely he'd have got the point despite the tactics, not because of them. Have the courage of your convictions FFS.

    I stopped reading there, anyway.

Any manager can expect criticism at times, although I think its a bit off to suggest that had it stayed 1-1 he'd have said O'Neill got it right but because they happened to sneak it right at the death it suddenly warrants an article. He also seems to be suggesting we could have gone for it more at 1-0 up which I think is daft- if the plan was to sit back and hit them on the break then it was working at 1-0, only an idiot would suddenly think "well thats worked, we've looked solid at the back and grabbed a goal as hoped, mint, now lets attack more even though they will now be more adventurous than ever", if the defensive set up was working, you'd stick to it and hope to see the game out maybe breaking again if they over committed in an attempt to get level but certainly not leaving unnecessary gaps.

So but for one late cross that was turned in, his opinion would have been entirely the opposite?

What a steaming pile of shit.

The OP is Gary Foster who wrote the article, he always links those articles up off the Shields Gazette website.

meh. If we had a little bit more luck with our chances we could have won quite comfortably. Just one of those games.
