My mate found loads of plastic explosives whilst digging up his garden in Murton the other week. He isn't finished yet, so this vision could yet be realised to an extent.

When I worked at the pit many years ago a few of the apprentices got done for stealing explosive from the NCD,

They were from Hetton, Houghton and Murton if I remember correctly.

One tried blowing up a pill box Houghton Cut way and another was sweating the stuff next to his hot water boiler trying to extract the nitroglycerine.

The "Sweating" for the nitro one was taken to court and i am sure it was in the Echo with prosecution pointing out he had his wife and baby in the house at the time????
