Looking for views and opinions
Do you think that the recession has an effect on attendances in football, or do you believe it is the quality of the football that attracts the fans to the match? Or is it a combination of the two? Sensible answers would be appreciated...

Re: Looking for views and opinions
It's definitely a factor, but a lot of people are getting pissed off with modern football in general.
The PL is becoming boring with the top 6 or 7 places more or less decided before the season starts.
Greedy players earning vast fortunes while pissing about.
The modern game doesn't have any heroes anymore, when I was a kid, there were loads of players who were brilliant and we'd pretend to be them when we had a kick about.
Modern players make the news because they beat up their girlfriends, take coke, fail drugs tests, fight in clubs, spend more time in Hello magazine than on the pitch and generally live their lives shielded from reality.
Sky messing around with the fixtures and only concentrating on certain team.
The England side/set up being shit.
Lots of reasons but the recession and redundancy is going to be a big factor for many.

Re: Looking for views and opinions
There's all manor of different reasons why people have stopped going. The recession will have a big impact all across Football, definitely with us. I think a few of our fans have been "bored away" from the matches. Some people are cheesed off at the minute with our performances. Both of the above along with Sky changing fixtures/greedy arsehole players have driven people away, some for good probably.
I'm still going but cant blame anyone for giving the above reasons for stopping

Re: Looking for views and opinions
how well the team is doing then
disposable income/price
Unless you are really really skint and it doesn't matter if the team are in The Champions League

Yep, but I also think people are becoming disengaged with modern day football and footballers alike. Money/wages/prices has a major factor in this.

This, too.
I think streaming is a red herring to the reasons why attendances are falling. If people had the money, I believe they would pip for the real match experience. However, the cost of the games, and the recession has reduced the inclination of folk to attend games.
I think the other vastly underestimated reason is the growing apathy for football in general. The attitude of some players has suddenly become a stereotype for all footballers. The money that is now involved in football, and in particular the PL, has ensured that connection with the players has been lost. That connection is a massive part of football, music, etc.
Richard Scudamore, I blame him and his model of treating football as a business.

Re: Looking for views and opinions
the survival of the premier league depends on having 14 clubs in it who are happy to never finish above 7th.
is this sustainable ?
probably
is this boring ?
almost certainly
