Under 16's

Was talking recently to my mate who refereed the Sunderland V Newcaslte U16 match.

He is black and white through and through, but said our U16's looked tremendous. Absolutely head and shoulders ahead of Newcastle's.

As much as he hates to say it, the future of teh Sunderland Academy looks excellent and he'd be very surprised if some of them don't go on to be quality players.

I know he is no scout, but coming form a Mag, it sounds promising.

The bloke form Ajax who set the academy up always said it would take 10 yrs minimum until we start producing quality players, that was 11 years ago, so finger crossed!

I know people twist on about the accademy, well they have in the past.

Truth is that in Waghorn, Leadbitter and Colbeck alone we`ve produced 15m of talent.

Not to mention Henderson. I don't think anyone now can have any qualms abotu the academy and how much we've spent on it. It's the future of the club after all!

I didn't realise we got him in 3 years before the academy of light was built. I know I remember being surprised when we sacked/released him after a short while at the club

I think the best thing is that although we might be head and shoulders ahead of them it's not because of physical attributes which is often why young sides do well in this country but because of how good they are technically.

We are bringing the kids through playing the right way.

Good shout A78. I noticed that while watching the younguns v smoggies and mags that although they had bigger lads, we generally passed the ball around them and they couldn't live with it.

I meant to actually, including Leadbitter its knocking on 18m of talent id say.
