In the original computers from the 14th century every calculation was performed on a series of wooden rods. The rods were attached to a large wooden beam (or "log") and to perform a calculation (or "event") one needed to rotate this log through three full turns. The event log in a modern computer is much the same thing thing, it is a small winding handle on the rear of the motherboard allowing processor operations to be manually incremented.
