Astute signings?

In regards O'Shea, Brown, Gibson, Gardner and Larsson.

If we were to get the above five, I think they would be quite industrious signings as a whole, and offer solutions to problems that we've been crying out to be amended.

All five would add good top flight experience and knowledge, something which we were lacking at certain points of last season.

O'Shea and Brown would also shore up our back line and enable us to hang on to leads with their experience and ability.

Gibson and Gardner will offer a more physical presence, and perhaps more importantly, a goal threat. However limited they may be technically, they will offer us something different which could be just what we need.

Finally, Larsson will provide the quality in set pieces, another aspect we're crying out for improvement in.

So whilst these five players may not excite and inspire on a technical front, I think they will offer a lot of industry, experience, physicality and know-how, not to mention a bigger goal threat, which we're lacking at the moment.

Agreed, they're the 5 I really hope we sign along with N'Zogbia and a striker. Others would be a bonus.

Left back is absolutely essential as well.

Oh aye.. those 5 plus 3 others then please. And all pretty much into the first team. Pre-season is going to be very important.

Not so sure about Gardner but i think all the others are very technically gifted players and any faults they have are other than technique.

Mingolet/Gordon/Other

Larsson - Cattermole - Gibson

Sessegnon - Gyan - N'Zogbia/?

With Gardner on the bench.

That's 4-6 new players in the first 11 and more in and around and fighting for places in the first team. I'd very much prefer them to get a full pre-season under their belts as a group rather than shipping in a couple with days to go of the transfer window and when we're a couple of weeks into the season.

Interesting. Technical isn't the term I really think of when I look at those players, but each to his own.

Not technically exciting anyway, but then again it's not as though any of them are forwards/tricky wingers.

I think we'll look to tie up the majority of the ones we've lodged bids for now pretty quickly, and all should be bedding in during preseason. Any marquee signings, ie N'Zogbia, will probably be competed later in the window. Its always the case as their club (Wigan in his case) know they have a player in demand and with him being in the last year of his contract will hope to get every possible penny for him.
