    Default Barclays Bank

What a set of bastards. I heard some woman who had her house burnt to the ground during the London riots say that Barclays Bank are still making her pay for the mortgage. They said it was not a good enough reason for stopping her payments.

Did she have insurance? It's not the mortgage lender's fault if she didn't.

If someone writes your car off, your don't get to stop paying your car loan.

If she had insurance, and if she didn't tough shit, the insurance is there to rebuild the house and not wipe the debt out.

There isn't a single lender who would do that any differently. The house is only the security for the debt so she has an option of not paying and giving Barclays her house.

If you don't have insurance for something so critical in life then no sympathies here.

Or is this the BBC agenda of hammering banks where they can?

Ridiculous. You can't run a successful business by being overly compassionate. I really feel for these people who have lost alot but they really should be insured.

I think a fair compromise would be for them to grant her 6 payment holidays, but people can't be expected to be let off the hook for that. Lot's of people's houses burn down every year through no fault of their own.

Same as that gadgey who got smashed up and his backpack rifled through. 22k ffs, just because he was on the news. How many times does that happen every day ...hundreds I'd imagine.

Barclays are owed the money so I don't see the problem. Why should they take the hit when she should have been insured?

    It's not.

It's a stereotypical situation for insurance: if she didn't have any, the debt should stand. Makes a mockery of those who've paid for insurance otherwise.

So what about the businesses that the governemnt are compensating? Why should they get govt money? Should they not be relying on insurance?
