Rooney was playing in a different position tbf. He didn't seem to have a free role, he seemed to be predominately hanging on the left, and playing much deeper than he usually does.
I'm always puzzled why people are suprised that the tabloids are fickle about England. They're fickle and reactionary about everything, that's what makes them tabloids.

Maybe it's because Lampard wasn't in the team then. Usually Rooney's 'free-role' usually means he's neither here nor there. Last night he seemed to be in harmony with the wide players, seemed to have a much more defined role. Regardless of what instructions Lampard is given, he always plays where he likes anyway.

Never knew it was like this when i was a kid. The Engalnd team were hero's to me in Italia 90, but after watching 1 night in Turin I was shocked. The press were every bit as bad back then, plus I never knew the knives had being out for Sir Bob aswell.
After watching it I would never buy any of the daily rags again. I'll just get my news of t'internet.

His position was strange for me, but fair play he did fairly well. Same as ever with England, piss the qualifiers against shite and fuck up later when the tabloids have built us up as world beaters.

But I am having none of that as Fabio Capello made arguably his best decision of his topsy-turvy time as England boss by giving Roo a totally free rein.
|
Owld arry seems to think otherwise like. The role he describes is the one hes always had when ive seen him play for england.
