    Default Bardsley Doubters

I'm a Bardo fan and cannot understand the lads in here who want him out.

He's a 26 year old full back who played 34 games for us last year and gave 100% in every one of them.

He went from the transfer list to player of the season, got an international call up, scored 3 belters and played most of the season out of position.

He loves a tackle, likes to leave his foot in when he can, and has even had a dabble with Mel Sykes I believe.

Can his critics please explain what he needs to add to his game to make him Sunderland standard?

He was at fault for more goals conceded than any other Sunderland player, including 3 goals he gifted to Nolan in the 2 derby games, this season. He's just not good enough to be a regular starter for us.

To get within 5 yards of a winger so they have to beat them to cross it (off the top of my head Matt Jarvis at the Sol), to mark players attacking the left post (off the top of my head Bolton) and to mark his man at corners rather than wander off onto the goal line (off the top of my head Nolan v Mags, 3 or 4 times in two games).

And to stop chipping the ball between the full back and centre back for an easy clearance/goal kick(every game).

Are you mistaking the Sykes thing for Makin? Or did Bardsley take the Delorean back to 2001?

Not cut inside all of the time, and rob the team of any balance on the left (admittedly not his fault he was being played there)

Not be easily outwitted by left footed players when in defence (same as above, but less so)

Make more assists and be involved in attack beyond shooting all the time. Yes he got some goals, but only two from open play. A modern fullback needs to be an integral part of the attacking play, and unless he scores he isn't.

Not lose his man at set pieces

He's not bad but he's not good either

I like him but agree time travel is his achilles.

Trying 100% is not something that requires applauding it is the equivalent of thanking somebody for being polite to you.

Give him a bash at right back, although his deficencies as a footballer, at this level will still be there for all to see.

And as for the international call up, hells teeth.

I am a fan of Bardsley as a squad player or given a chance at right back to see if he has improved. However as a left back he is limited and I would prefer Richardson there instead.

Bardsley is a great character to have in the squad and the dressing room, however he is somebody the fans will wear blinkers for when it comes to his ability because he gets ''stuck in'', ''shows passion'' etc.
