Pecking Order
Die-hard attendee: every game home and away
"I see every ball that is kicked and so this allows me to speak with authority to those who have not seen what I have seen."
Season-ticket holder: attends home games only
"I see half of every season and so, while I bow to the authority of the die-hard attendee, I can still pull rank on armchair fans."
TV watcher: pub and PC
"I see quite a few games each season, but attend none. I can play an active part in discussions about dodgy decisions I have seen on-screen, but I cannot speak with the authority of those above."

Re: Pecking Order
the intake of alcohol has to play a part in some attendees, as if they are sober and still post some of the rubbish on here, i despair

Re: Pecking Order
If this was the case, even higher in the pecking order would come people who have played professional football.
Listening to Horswill, MacDonald talk utter shite blows this theory out of the water.

Re: Pecking Order
Not really,a true typical fan is one who watches every kick of the match live, then goes home and watches every single action replay on the box, over and over again, from 101 different angles, then spends the rest of the week on PF talking total shite.

Exactly. I think there is a foolish assumption in the media that ex-footballers know what they are talking about. Some do, many don't. Being able to talk eloquently about football on TV is more about intelligence and presentation skills than an ability to tackle, run, kick the ball etc. It's like saying a politician makes a good political journalist, or a chef makes a good food critic. Some do, many don't.
It's similar wrt footballers going into management. Mourinho was, famously, the interpreter, and pretty crap at football.
