    Default James McClean

I see we have a local lad on his way to the SOL

BBC Website: James McClean is poised for a move to the Stadium of Light
Derry City have accepted a bid from English Premier League side Sunderland for highly-rated winger James McClean.
The 22-year-old will travel to Sunderland on Monday for a medical.
McClean has been a target for a number of English clubs this summer, with Peterborough United making two offers for the player.
His impressive form has resulted in a first call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Have any of you fellas seen much of him before?

Be good if the deal included a game with Derry City next pre season I would fancy coming over for that. Its seems ages since SAFC played an Irish League team. Would it have been Glentoran ?

Would be nice if we can get him but it certainly looks positive. Apparently he is supposed to be having a good season with Derry City. As Kingdom Boy mentioned I think Glentoran were supposed to play Sunderland but they couldn't raise the cash. Mervyn wiuld probably no more about that than I would will have to ask him.

At least James McClean will be used to playing in red and white stripes. May have seen him for Derry, but don't remember him if I did. May see him on Wednesday if he gets on for N.I. V Faroes.
Will be over at the Liverpool and Newcastle matches so may see you then.

I was thinking about when we last played an Irish league time and I thought it was against Glentoran when Terry Butcher wasa our manager.

Won't be seeing him on Wednesday after all, as he's walked out on N.I. Lost interest in him somewhat.
I think the last Irish League team that Sunderland played was Portadown, but that was at least 10 years ago.
There were to play a friendly against Cliftonville as part of James Inghram's transfer, but that never happened.
