It was hugely secretive, and the allies new little about the camps until they began to liberate them. Ironically the "efficiency" we label the modern day German as was systematic of the Nazi regime. This allowed them to be so successful at the "final solution" that had the war not ended when it did, they would have succeeded in wiping out an entire race of European Jews.

Bletchly Park and churchill at least knew. Bletchley were.decoding enigma transcripts from german army depicting the quantities of jews being massacred. churchill couldn't let on that we knew though or germany would have rumbled the breaking of enigma and would have changed the codes.

Didn't they also let Coventry get flattened for the same reasons?

    Absolute horseshite mate.
The first reports came out around 40/41 and confirmed reports were certainly presented to the allies from reliable sources in 42.
The Nazis never hid the program but the west refused to believe they would carry it out.

Was gonna post a thread about a Second World War boxset before but might as well keep it in this.

Saw The World at War boxset on the Tesco Entertainment website for £15. Seems decent, is it a good watch?

Suggest you read some books on the subject as I have. Or visit the IWM

How can there have been confirmed reports when the whole principle of getting somebody to walk into a gas chamber was that they simply didn't believe the Germans would kill them. It had to be secretive to work as well as it did.

That's the restored edition - great price, I think I paid £25 for mine. Definitely worth a watch.

There's been threads on here in the past about that series
