New XBox User Advice needed please!!!

Finally got round to getting an Xbox360 today from Game. Got the Xbox360 Elite - was on offer for £199, but managed to get it for £99 because I had a few things to trade in

Just need a bit of advice please. Anybody recommend any decent "budget" games for it (I have got Fight Night 4 and Call Of Duty 4 which came with it).

Also is it simple to connect to XBox live to play games online, it says it comes with Xbox live silver, so am I able to play online or will I have subscribe?

Bit of a novice when it comes to consoles, as I was mainly a PC gamer (usually Football Manager!), so any good tips and advice will be really appreciated!

You'll need to upgrade to xbox live Gold in order to play games online, the silver just lets you watch new content, download demos (although you have to wait a few days after launch now if you're not a gold member) and send messages, add friends etc... you can get Gold card codes online for approx £30 for the year (look out for the month free ones as well where you get 13 months for the price of 12.)

Depending on your router you may need to forward your ports (check portforward.com) but most dont have to.

Dont know what to recommend for budget games (i would have said COD4 is a must but you've got it) Newer games try Call Of Juarez 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, COD 5. If you can get away with baseball try The Bigs 2 which has just come out a couple of weeks ago and is only £15 in Asda. Great fun when theres a few round having a drink.

Setting up 'media sharing' is also good if you download films/ music and want to play them on the TV

Older games with no online should be cheap as owt.

I'd thorughly recommend Bioshock, Oblivion and Fallout 3. The first 2 are available as a pack, or just pick em up 2nd hand for next to nowt.

You will probably have a free month of Gold, which will then drop down to a Silver. So no online play after a month unless you stump up.

Whats your fav game genres, help us to recommend stuff.

Gears of War 2 and streetfighter 4 are 18 quid each on play.com. Gamespider is a good site for searching for cheap games.

Get yersel to Grainger Games, they have older games in for next to nowt.

Games like Crackdown and Assassins Creed are in for about a fiver and well worth a dabble.

Thanks for all the help lads much appreciated. Haven't got it set up yet, planning on doing that on Thursday and have a day messing about on it then.

Used it have a PS2 and used to enjoy playing Fifa and racing games. Some of the titles that you've mentioned above seem interesting so will give me an idea on what to ask the missus to get me for Christmas!

FIFA 10 and Forza Motorsport 3 are out soon, they should be quality.

Forza Motorsport 2 should be on your list though, you'll be able to pick it up really cheap too.

I'd recommened Fifa 09, which you will probably pick up for next to nowt due to Fifa 10 being out in about a month, also Project Gotham Racing 4 which has a canny online mode anarl.
