Default Sess playing in the hole

when did this become 'out of position' for Sess? I seem to remember in the summer people were crying out for him to play here and slagged Bruce off because he'll "play him on the wing". Then this season Bruce plays him there and it's been "useless twat, sess isn't a striker and never will be".

so when did it become a stick to beat bruce with as it was what everybody wanted at the time and a few weeks into the season and Bruce was getting slagged for it. What has changed since pre-season?

This is not a post defending Bruce, i just find it very strange how everybody seems to have done a u-turn and now saying he should be played on the wing.

Well it just hasn't looked convincing at all, whether that's down to Sess or Bendtner. On saturday he was excellent when he went to left wing, the position that no one wanted Sess to play. Maybe he is the ultimate confirmation that the accepted views of the PF are = utter shite.

I think that is his best position, behind 2 strikers. It wont work with him just playing off Bendtner because Bendtner drops deep and wide too often - It just means there's no one in the box.

I very much doubt we're going to see Bruce playing 4312, unfortunatley.

I think people wanted him behind a front two, rather than being just the one striker, and now that Bendtner is here he's often the most advanced player due to Bendtner drifting wide and dropping deep a lot of the time. This doesn't suit Sess at all as he is not, and never will be a striker.

Personally, I've always wanted to see him on either the left or right of a front three, but while Bruce is here we'll never see anything resembling a 4-3-3.

he was, we were all saying he should be played behind the striker pre-season but since he came our results have been shit...but he's by far our best player so it's baffling.

I think results being shit are more down to Bents departure than Sessegnons arrival. We simply have noone for Sessegnon to create for. He would be best behind a front two but sadly he's playing behind a lone striker who isn't known for his predatory instincts. Bendtner is also a link up man.

I dont see where our goals are going to come from sadly

    OP is right.

I never fancied him as a English-style left winger, as I didn't see him as being direct enough to get to the byline and knock a good cross in.

But playing him "off" the main striker doesn't work - and he's played quite well out on the left - better than any other option we have.

i think it's his best position by far. But if you are going to do it you can't really just try to shoehorn it into a 4-4-2. And if you are absolutely adamant that you want to shoehorn it into a 4-4-2, then you have to give him someone up front who is willing to run away from him and give him an option for a final pass.

Bruce just hasn't got anywhere near the level of tactical flexibility or imagination to be able to use Sessegnon to anywhere near his potential.

    That's probably pretty much it

I was relieved when he said he would play there and the signs looked promising in pre-season but since then everything at the club has gone downhill. The problem with sess is you have to put him in somewhere and atm it seems to be on the left, although i think if he is here long term if we could find the perfect position and combination for him. It will be our best way forward.

I think it's definitely his position, but if he's only got one forward in front of him, they need to be a "last shoulder" type striker, capable of taking the defenders with them and giving him the room to do his stuff. Bendtner's an excellent player, but that's just not his game, so it hasn't worked.

I'd have been interested to see Bent and Sessegnon together, and if we sign a nippy forward in January it might become a viable option again, but with the strikers we've got playing Sess with one striker in front of him just doesn't work. He needs at least two forwards in front of him, then he can flit around and make a nuisance of himself in the gaps they leave.
