Power supplies are pretty bog standard standard and cases usually have the fittings to accomodate most of them. Go for the case you like the best and pick a power supply after that though.

The motherboard size is the main factor to take into account. ITX/mITX will be listed on the motherboard page for the case compatibility.

    Whats the rig for ?

Major arsing about like using the net, watching porn, downloading ? or playing games?

What grafix card you putting in ?

How much memory will you have ?

How many hard drives, CD/DVD players/writers etc ?

This is what is in mine and I run, 2 Hard drives, one with the OS on and the other where I store my games I play, 1 DVD read writer. an 8800 Nvidia gfx card! And the case is canny, just looks pretty in the dark as it glows blue and flashes red when accessing the hard drive

basically surfing and ripping dvd's and a cheap (£50 range graphics card)
    4 gig memory
a couple of 1tb hard drives or maybe only 1
    dvd drive

can you damage your components buy using a cheap psu ? or do you just end up replacing it ?

Wrong, the cheap psu's only have the 1 12v rail are useless for a decent pc. Get the most expensive one you can afford. Not to mention the cheap one's are so noisy its untrue.
