    very good lens for the price, however if you want a more versitile lens without breaking the bank i highly recomend the tokina 24-200 (under £200), its sharp throughout its range and a great walkabout lens, depends if you can get by with 200 instead of 300.

    Shorter range granted, but I have a Nikon 55-200 AF-S VR DX and that's a cracking lens for the price. About £150 brand new. Works perfectly on the D40.

    Which one is it?

    Check out Amazon too as they tend to be the cheapest around - usually.

    I have the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro and it's a great lens for Macro stuff - a bit soft at longer focal lengths for other stuff though.

    Damn it! You buy for Nikon Australia in good faith, and this is how they repay you.

    I really recommend this site for lens reviews. It's always the first place I check.

    While we're on the subject, does anyone know of;

    - a decent but cheap wide angle lens (don't mind if it's old, especially not if it's metal bodied. Been looking at the 28mm E Series.

    - a decent, cheap walkaround lens (something like the 18-200, but not £400 worth)

    Need Nikon fit. Have a D2X compatibility shouldn't be much of an issue.
