    Default Stick or Twist

    Question, you're Ellis Short and your manager you've backed through the summer is asking for more money for 2 more new faces, he has failed to win 2 games thus far this season and the fans are restless.

    Do you;

    a) back your manager as you have confidence in him and let him sign the two players needed, which should see an improvement on the pitch
    b) tell him he has to deal with the squad he has, knowing fine well you'll need to give any new manager some money on January should the current manager be sacked

    Good question.

    I'd want to back him as I genuinely think he's trying his best and he seems a decent fella but ultimately if it was my decision i'd go with B

    It's an interesting one, give him the resources to turn it around with a chance he will fail, don't give him the resources he needs to turn it around and inevitably he will fail. Once the window shuts we are stuck with the squad, and without a recognised left back and left winger the unbalanced look of the team will remain.

    Stoke are mocked on here by some of our lot, but they have two proper wide men, who cause teams a whole load of problems, a balanced side will always give you more options, than square pegs in round holes.

    How about: you've known throughout the Summer that negotiations on one or two of his transfer targets were always likely to go down to the wire as you're waiting for the selling club to blink and/or sign their own transfer targets first.

    Do you hold your nerve (as you do with all your other business dealings) or do you suddenly turn into Chicken Little?

    Bruce has no intention whatsoever of buying a left back, he said this himself on a radio phone-in just 2 weeks ago, I'm convinced he is now doing it out of spite, as every single Sunderland fan I know is aware we need a left back and have done in Bruce's whole tenure of the club.

    How much has Ellis actually put in over the last 12 months? Not much would be my guess. The majority of Short's investment was spent by Keane... Bruce has had to balance the books since he arrived in his defence. (This is not a defence for baffling team selections and reluctance to make substitutions mind you.)

    Can't sack him after bringing in so many new faces, has to have until Christmas unless it all goes badly tits up. I am upset about the derby but two wins in the next two games will change things, sadly that seems overly optimistic.
