    Default Camera/Camcorder

Final present to buy and was wondering whether to buy a camera that takes video or a camcorder that takes pictures.
Its' mostly for our lass to take Photos and footage of the bairns (and so she can leave the good camera for me to use)

Has to be small is the only criteria really.

    Get this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001T9NH4W/ref=asc_df_B001T9NH4W514713?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=7974&creativeASIN=B001T9NH4W
Its small, takes really good pictures and good quality HD video. Its really easy to use too.

That Ixus will be good, but as a rule the worst camcorder will record better video than the best camera, and vice versa.

What about one of those flip camcorders, then a decent compact camera?

I dont want 2 devices really, looking for a happy medium and unsure which way to go camera or camcorder, I understand that its a trade off to the other.
Might go for that Canon like unless theres any more advice kicking about ?

The Ixus will be a good compromise - I have an Ixus 900ti myself as my point-and-shoot and it's fantastic.

The issue you'll have is deciding which is more important - the video quality or the photo quality. The cheaper pocket camcorders aren't great on still photos, and vice versa with the compact digital still cameras, although to be honest, if it's just for home use does it really matter?

Kodak Zi6, and Flip Mimo are decent camcorders, which also take stills. Casio Exilim EX Z80 is a decent stills camera that takes reasonable video.

Ixus 900ti isnt on jessops website like, you would advise that one or the 100?

Right all changed, I decided on a camcorder.
Anyone experts on these can advise?
Was liking the look of the Panasonic SDR-S26.

    Or maybe Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10.

I got my 900ti 3 years ago iirc - it was the top of the range Ixus back then though it looks like it's now discontinued. It was similar to the normal Ixus but had a titanium body and a few extra features. This http://www.amazon.co.uk/IXUS-Stylish-Black-Optical-Zoom/dp/B001G7PBGO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261131921&sr=1-1
    seems to be its replacement.

Any of the newer Ixus would be fine tbh.

Don't know much about camcorders, but I have used a Sanyo Xacti before. Video quality was good, but the still were about the quality you'd get on a so-so mobile phone.

Just make sure you don't get a JVC Everio GZ-MS120, they're riddled with asbestos.
