Default If you could pick any manager in footy to be our next boss ...

    Martin O'Neill for me ...

Yes sounds slightly dramatic, but I'd be absolutely over the knot if we get him in the morn.

Not because he's the best manager in world, but I'm convinced he's the best manager available for Sunderland. Motivated, can get players to play above their level and has the drive to come to Sunderland.

Cracking appointment for us, I would have taken either Hughes or O'Neill.

Personally feel Hughes is the better manager BUT O'Neill will do better with us.

By best manager available to Sunderland, I mean the best appointment for the resource available and our club.

Do you think Mourinho could come here on a modest budget and do any better? He's been at pretty much the biggest spending club in each league he's won/managed in ... Porto, Chelsea when Roman spunked millions and Real.

So in answer to your question, yes I'd pick O'Neill above him for Sunderland. If you wanted a manager for Man City etc. I'd say Mourinho.

Pepe Guardiola? He manages the best team I've ever seen.

Seriously though, O'Neill seems to be a perfect fit. I acknowledge Hughes, but he doesn't seem right. Moyes would be good, but I'm not convinced he'd take us to the next level.

Benitez? Good manager, but not a good fit either. There are others, but O'Neill is the best we can hope for currently

Don't get me wrong, Pep Guardiola is probably the best manager about bar Fergie.

The point Im trying to make, is that for our club, and our level, you need to pick a specific manager.

In addition to his track record, he's a fan and played under Clough and Bingham, two SAFC legends. Thats gotta count for something.

Hence my caveat, I'm talking about best fit, Guardiola is brilliant for Barcelona, hopefully O'Neill will be the same for us. Only time will tell.

Off to bed now, I'm all media'd out
