Default International managers obsession with "Big team" players

When you think it through rationally, it makes absolutely no sense at all.

I appreciate someone playing in the CL could gain vast experience playing v the worlds best which could be invaluable.

However, that aside, shirley if a player shines for SAFC, the mags, Boro or whoever, its a greater achievement than doing so in an apparently better side, with better players?

Some of these twats, particularly defenders, are rarely stretched at their clubs.

Back to Phillips, getting the golden boot at fecking Sunderland is shirley 10 fold doing so at Chelsea?

Feck the lot of em. Im surprised SAFC support doesnt have an anti England stance like Man Utds, SAFC and its players have been treat with utter contempt.

    Very good point.

Shearer is probably the best example I can think of. He turned down all the glory he could have had at Man U to become a legend for the club he loves. Mega respect to the wheetabix headed wanker for that.

When they signed Shearer they were challenging Man Utd. Not like he joined a mid table side. He went to the mags as he thought the would win things...stupid twat! He was the best in the business when they signed him though

    Shearers a poor example.

Im talking players who do the business week in/week out for their less fashionable sides.

They never get a chance for England but if Liverpool etc bought them theyre suddenly permanent fixtures. Been going on for years.

Shearer chose money over glory; had it been Leicester offering £20K more a week than Man U; he'd have gone there

So like when Clark signed for us?
Sure he got straight in the England squad?

They do train with better players week, perhaps with "better" coaches and backroom staff/ support, often have the advantage of experience of winning things and of course (as mentioned) playing in the Champions League is seen as a major advantage.

You could say that Phillips was a big fish in a small pond and didn't have any competition off and on the field for the goal scoring opportunities the team created.

I do think it's unfair and these things are over-rated, but I do think it's based on a perceived logic.

Le Tissier would have walked into the England squad if he'd made the move to a more "fashionable" team...
