Panic buying at the supermarkets?

Anyone sad enough to have done this for Christmas? we just have

Bought two cartons of soup this dinner time, mind you they were two for two pund

How do you define panic buying? I plan to avoid the supermarkets this week as they will be a total shitefest of last minute buying, but if Asda can't get up the street I might have to venture out.

giving the 3 cases of beer for £18 (hope its £16 soon anarl!!), half price wine, and cheap spirits some hammer--buts more like good planning than panic buying
