Here, just for the record, are some facts. The national debt at the end of this Parliament will be around £350 billion higher than it is now

So he's not reducing the deficit either.

Why should we believe the article? The fact that you do leads me to think that Dan is probably an arsehole and this is the first time i've even heard of him.

    No I don't.

    I'm not an economist.

I'm a relatively 'normal' person who doesn't understand what the tories are trying to do.

Do you know the difference between a CLOB and a BLOB without googling?

    His arguments are well reasoned.

And he's been predicting events in the Europe and the banking crises very accurately for a few years now.

National debt has only been cut a few times in the last 30 years...and only by a few billion....most of the time the government..whoevers in... just adds to it...
Budget deficit will be reduced... but how long it'll take nobody knows...the worlds cogs are snookered...and they cant fix them..
One of the new rules which Europe will announce...is already in place.. but nee ones tried to keep to it...you must keep the deficit under 3% of GDP..
Politicians want to win...so cash is borrowed to win elections...same old story.
Heres me chart again....big debts in 1990-94...way above target...nee financial crisis in sight...and it was the tories...not the useless labour..

To be fair it's not hard. The debt is how much we owe in total, the deficit is how much we're short between what we take in as a country and what we spend.

Weren't the Germans one of the first to break that rule? Sure I remember something from a good few years back about them breaking one of the Euro fiscal rules.

Aye that article backs up what I've been saying for ages. The govt just cut without due care or attention and cut a lot of things that are actually recycled back into the economy and promote growth (such as RDAs, the school buildings programme & even people's salaries). The autumn statement went some way to trying to correct this.

Because growth has been so pathetic and unemployment is rocketing then the growth they'd factored in hasn't happened so they'll have to cut more than they bargained for. While at the same time benefits payments are through the roof thanks to so many more on the dole, at the same time as unemployment and low wages fucking up growth through people spending. Jobs a good un eh?!
