Was this the Look & Read children's TV show? About the pigeons? I remember The Boy From Space and Dark Towers. Also King's Dragon - about The Battle of Hastings.

Wordy was class.

There was a song about an apostrophe. Something that seems to give so much trouble to so many people.

Machine gunners was my favourite book growing up as a kid, still one of my favourites now. The sequel 'fathom five' is canny anarl. Robert Westall was from North Sheilds.

Not old enough to remember? It was an orange pencil with a light on top that floated about spelling out words and showing you how to form letters.

Oh and describing the actions as it did it.
