I know there are some Groupon users on here and was wondering if anyone else bought the ‘Gentleman’s Pampering’ package last week from ‘The Godbarber’ in the Toon? If you did, you’re in for a treat. I booked meself straight in once I got the coupon as I had a day off on Friday and felt like I deserved a bit of pampering after tramping through the snow and ice for the last fortnight.
So, off I went, nice, quiet part of town near the Laing Gallery. I’m not exactly a salon sort of person, a reluctant trip to the local scalper every couple of months for a fiver, so I was a bit nervous if I’m honest. Absolutely no need though, the 3 staff were all really friendly and chatty, totally unpretentious. I always wonder how much the ‘real price’ on Groupon deals is inflated but I had a look on their ‘menu’ and sure enough, the 3 hour bundle is listed at £75 (it was £22 through Groupon). I think I was on nearer to 4 hours in the end, there was no attempt to rush things through on the cheap deal and it is probably worth mentioning that the price includes drinks – seemingly as many as you want. Bud, Stella, red or white wine, tea or coffee, a welcome bonus!
The sequence of treatments may vary but for me it went:
Haircut
Hot towel/cutthroat shave with a bit facial massage with oils - quite scary!
Steam shower – like a private steam room with various shower options
Upper body massage, initially by hand and then with this G5 gizmo which applied quite intense, deep vibrating pressure to various crucial areas
Shampoo and head massage to finish (No ‘happy ending’!)
Felt really good at the end of it all and well set for a busy weekend. Whether or not I will ever pay the full price for a return visit, I don’t know, but I wouldn’t rule it out. Being a tightwad though, I will probably live in the hope of another Groupon offer coming along.

The initial offer stated that you had 3 months to use the coupon but they have had to increase that to 4 months as they sold 502 vouchers and don't think they could fit them all in!!
Makes a bit more sense of the Groupon deals now, that’s an extra £11,000+ turnover created, and obviously that will lead to some repeat business and new regular customers for them. I’ve had a couple of good restaurant deals so far plus have a night’s B & B for 2 to come, with champagne on arrival, at Otterburn Tower which was only £39
