Default India Knight - Hypocrite - Sunday Times

This is a poor thread because I can't directly quote the Sunday Times.
(You need a subscription to get it online.)

Anyway, I just wanted to get it off my chest because I feel so angry.

In this week's edition India Knight, who I've trusted as a journalist for years, addressed the jailing of Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour.

Because she's a friend of the family she trotted out one of the most sickening defences I've ever seen in my life ......... she used every clichéd excuse you could imagine for why this 'sensitive boy' shouldn't have been locked up.

"Yes he was on LSD, slaughtered and had taken other drugs but so had other people."

"Yes he had swung from the Union flag on the Cenotaph war memorial, thrown missiles and sat on a car in the Royal convoy but is that so bad?"

    What a vomit inducing hypocrite.

If this had been some benefit scrounging tosser she'd have crucified him but because he was a 'sensitive child' from an incredibly privileged background the authorities had 'cruelly made an example of him'.

I won't bother reading her column again which is a shame as I've always trusted her.

Me anarl, but she was saying he shouldn't be locked up at all 'cos he's sensitive.

Does that mean you should be locked up if you're insensitive

Yes, 16 months was harsh but they wanted to make an example of a high profile protester & he got it.
You call him over privileged & he probably is. In all honesty though I'd rather be from a poorer background & not have a life that is so dull that I have to use illegal drugs to brighten it up.

Didn't she drag out that old William Rees-Mogg quote from The Times in the 60s when Jagger and Richards were jailed "Who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?"

Actually, there are possible similarities in the situation:

    Quote:
The editorial, highly critical of the court's decision, is thought to have contributed to the success of Jagger's and Richards' appeal against the sentences.[8] It concluded "If we are going to make any case a symbol of the conflict between the sound traditional values of Britain and the new hedonism, then we must be sure that the sound traditional values include those of tolerance and equity. It should be the particular quality of British justice to ensure that Mr. Jagger is treated exactly the same as anyone else, no better and no worse. There must remain a suspicion in this case that Mr. Jagger received a more severe sentence than would have been thought proper for any purely anonymous young man."
