Install google earth and turn on the live traffic, black dots = stationary traffic, red = very slow traffic, yellow = slow traffic and green = normal traffic

Both. M1, M18, A1. Stop off at Morrison's, J1 (Rotherham) on the M18 for nosebag and petrol.

If you click the weather it'll show a live satellite image of the snow radar.

Alternatively try www.raintoday.co.uk, it shows the path of the snow radar from the last couple of hours.

I come up the A1 from Hertfordshire every Friday and the only place I get held up is between the M18 and M62 junctions. So I would do M1 all the way up to where it joins the A1(M) around the A64 (3 lanes all the way!)
