Hi long time lurker 1st time post (bar 1 on the games section)
mate ranting on fb about us and them saying fact after fact till he says Steve Bruce has never beat us - i replied Birmingham in the FA cup beat you 5-1 Bruce was manager then boom this eassy appears from one of his mates
"As much as I like the sunderland fans I personally know, on a collective level they have to be the biggest idiots of all time. Celebrating that they finished ONE point above a newly promoted team? Is that how insignificant their season, nay..., their existance is? Think about it, what's the biggest thing that's happend to Sunderland since '73? It was us getting relegated in 09 wasn't it?
I know both clubs are on a massive trophy drought, and ours is four years longer than theirs, but since our last trophy we have had some amazing times. Sunderland are simply existing, making up the numbers. They've never had an Alan Shearer or Kevin Keegan, a Bobby Robson or a Peter Beardsley or a Paul Gascoigne et.al. Who's the biggest name to be associated with SAFC? Kevin Philips? Nial Quinn? Both are great, down to earth blokes who I've met btw, but in terms of football stature they're not mentioned in the same breath as Keegan or Shearer or Sir Bobby.
In the last twenty years, Newcastle have been in so many great games, had so many moments. Sunderland, off the top of my head, had the 4-4 play off final game vs. Charlton. That's it. Compare that to the 4-3's with Liverpool, the 5-0 vs. United, countless European campaigns. I think in my lifetime Newcastle have been in about 13 seasons worth of european football. Not bad when I'm only 19. Sunderland have had what, one european game? EVER? Newcastle are the only team to qualify for the second group stage (now defunct, it goes straight to KO) after losing their first three games. We needed to beat Dynamo Kiev, Feynoord - no mugs either of those teams, and the small task of beating Italy's biggest and most succesful club, and we did it.
In terms of trophy cabnet, we're both lacking, but our's is slightly better, although it hasn't been added to in 40 years. In terms of stadium, we both have two great stadiums but again, ours is a bit bigger. In terms of relevance, name recognition, then forget it, Newcastle United are streets ahead of Sunderland. I think if most Sunderland fans were being really honest, they'd rather have the 5-1 than finish one point ahead."
god all i said was Bruce won a game v newcastle, then that my life ill not bother next time! sorry for wasting your time!
