    Default Home office "rape" adverts

Has anyone seen them in Nuts and Zoo this week?

...."she wants to back to her flat for a bit of post closing time fun. what a result! so do you....

    a) go back to her place for what the movies call a "coffee"
    b) take her number and send her home in a licensed cab with her mates.

choose option a) and you could wake up with rather more than a stinking hangover - perhaps even a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.......you could be branded a rapist"

i don't know anyone who is single and wouldn't choose a).

now i am certainly not condoning rapists and if a lass has no idea what is going on and is practically unconcious i can understand situations where a lad can be charged, but these adverts are scary.

recently we had the adverts telling us "the party's over", you can't get pissed.

now you can't go out on the pull.

Haven't seen them, but if they're as you describe and it's not made clear that 'you' are sober and 'she' is hugely drunk then it's both offensive to men and patronising to women.

How would anyone prove that either person involved had consented or not?

If 2 people are in a room and anything bad happened it would still be one person's word against another.

Haven't seen them but from what you describe I think this is appalling. This whole issue is scare-mongering and more importantly it implicitly accuses women of fabricating rape accusations - detracting from what is an horrific crime that society here is complety failing to address. FFS.

Waste of money too. Figures are on the increase, it sells itself.

For most kind of rape there are usually signs of force being used. However, if the lass is so drunk she virtually passes out or doesn't 'know' what shes doing then you are dead right, its virtually impossible to prove. Why someone would want to have sex with somone in that state (legitamately) i have no idea.

Not trying to downgrade a serious debate, but I guess this excludes long-term monogamous relationships/marriage?

My ex was rarely sober/alive whilst doing the deed.

Thats one of the big problems in getting prosecutions - the only witnesses are the alleged perpetrator and victim. So unless there's clear evidence that violence has been used in the assault its difficult to prove the issue of consent. The law is being modified though to sfhift the burden of proof from the victim to the alleged perpetrator in that they will have to prove that the 'victim' consented rather than the victim prove that they didn't. So if a victim was drugged, or very drunk - they clearly wouldn't be able to consent - so it is rape in such an instance.
