Default A good keeper wins you things - do fans underestimate their importance?

I'm really surprised that so many people are happy for us to cash in on Gordon. He's a world class keeper (IMO) and earns us points. I think he would be very difficult / impossible to replace.

Teams that win trophies have a solid spine up the team. If he wants to go, so be it, but I'd struggle to see the sense in selling him unless we have another world class keeper lined up to replace him. I know money plays a major part, but keep him till the summer.

All the focus is on strikers, but look at the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham over the past 3 years. Lots of goals, but the lack of a great keeper has held them back. A great keeper breads confidence in the whole team.

Generally fans seem to under estimate the importance of the keeper

they think we can just go out and buy anyone with the money though. Abit surprising how many of our so called fans are much eager for ellis short to put 15 mil in his back pocket than for us to have a quality keeper on the pitch

It's a team game, all players win their part.
Besides if anything it's strikers that win you games, that's reflected in their transfer value.
Compare top keeper transfer values with strikers..not in the same ball park

I'm a fan of Gordon's, I think he's a good keeper, what has he done to be called "world class" though?

    The dilemma is simple

Cash in on him now or lose him for a lot less or for nowt in the near future, if he won't sign a new contract.

    Managers underestimate their importance

sell him for anything over £5m....he's not that good. Schmeikel was world class. Gordon is average.

Simple error in this-clean sheets don't win a match. They give you a chance of winning. But if a striker on your team doesn't score for you, barring the opponent scoring an own goal every game you will never ever ever ever ever win.

He's a good keeper about to reach the peak of his career. You can see why top sides want him.

If someone offers £15m though, we should snap their hand off. You can buy Robinson/Given for a quarter of that fee.

This. If we did sell Gordon for an 8 figure fee i'd love to see Robinson here for a few million, and the rest of the money could be used to strengthen other areas of the team.
