Going to Edinburgh this weekend for my best friends stag party, any tips pn the "Do's" and "Dont's" in Edinburgh and the good bars to head for?

Don't try and get into any bars in the grassmarket if you're a group of lads, split up into pairs. It's a right pain in the arse but doorman there are twats.

Agree re the groups too. 2 or 3 at most if you want to get in. It really is that bad. Same on Rose street.

Avoid the themed bars on a weekend - the likes of Frankensteins and Espionage are faves and the bouncers/staff don't let them in on weekends if its busy. Rose street good for ale but not that kind of atmosphere, Grass Market good for parties but behave because the bouncers don't muck about if your party does. Generally, the only tip is watch for the bouncers and door staff - they can be gits so don't be a hammered party.

CCblooms, they love the party atmosphere.

Get in easy if you're not in typical fancy dress and aint being twats, GM is surprisingly tolerant if you aren't annoying the regulars or the spenders.

There is a bar with about 6 floors....avoid like the plague.

Was up there about a year ago and was shit to be honest, bouncers knocking us back from everywhere and as a result the group had to split into much smaller numbers just to even stand a chance. Don't think anyone had done their homework though so a bit of a plan will help no doubt......from memory, the seven sisters near the grassmarket seemed stag and hen friendly!

I live up here and do up town most weekends and the bouncers/door staff thing is the problem now. Do the stag/hen party thing and gan for it, but if you turn up all fancy dress and singing, you won't get in most places. Door staff are twats. Behave before you get in, get in and let go a bit and you'll go down a storm, but the rule is behave before you get in, and you'll get in. Be loud, be obnoxious, have stupid stag outfits... you'll struggle. Groups are ok as long as you don't look like a bunch of tourists on the lash. We go out in a group of 6 or 7 on a normal night out - behave and you're fine. The bouncers are worse than NP up here mate.
