Default January Challenge - Macro - Discussion Thread

The theme for the first challenge of 2012 is Macro Photography.

Most digital compacts have a macro setting and using the right lenses on (D)SLRs will produce some good results, so I think it's a theme that everyone can have a go at.

    Some info here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrophotography
    http://photo.net/learn/macro/

Shots must be taken and posted between now and midnight on Jan 31st.

    Happy shooting

Interesting subject. Can see this favouring people with ££££££ macro lenses.

May try one of these with a wide lens:

I considered this, but most point and shoot compacts have really good macro modes, so I decided to run with it.

That's going to be hard to beat. What's the contraption involving the enlarger you referred to?

Was that a ten second exposure? Or a typo? (your comp entry).

well I tried taping pop bottles to a tripod, then made a wooden frame... neither would get the droplets into the same place so I dug out an old enlarger and used that to hold a couple of smaller bottles rather than 2 litre pepsi... The old Vivitar enlarger is an ideal shape, with a solid frame, adjustable in height, directly over a nice flat surface... works well.

edit; "contraption" is spot on! Heath Robinson would have rejected the design for being silly!

    yep, 10 (ten) second exposure...

Wonderful idea. You should try it with a range of liquids of different viscosities, eg milk, cooking oil, honey etc.
