How do you envisage things come May time?
Chelsea, Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Spurs uncatchable.
6th attainable?
IMO Bolton will drop off and I honestly feel we can challenge for 6th. 7th would even get us in Europe dependant on cup outcomes.
Challengers? Liverpool, Everton, Villa, Fulham.
We hold a small lead over all of them at this moment in time however I would be amazed if their opening 14 were as tricky as ours.
The draw against both scouse clubs could be a big result come the end of the season. We really need to hold our nerve versus the lesser sides. After the beachball incident last season I thought we could finish above Liverpool yet of inability to beat dross cost us dearly. Ive a feeling this season could be different.
No idea where this optimism came from but I see 10th as our worst case scenario at the minute.
(I bet we go down!)

Re: How do you envisage things come May time?
After the game last night as we stood waiting on the steps me and my dad decided that winning the league probably isn't going to happen this season so we'll start with this instead. Then once we've gotten a taste of that winning mentality we can build on it and begin to really challenge in the coming seasons.

Re: How do you envisage things come May time?
Assuming we don't have a significant slump at some point, we should be good for a finish somewhere between 6 and 10.
Doing well in the FA Cup will always have an element of luck in it, and our realistic chances of winning that are little different to most of the teams from about 6th downwards. In other words, pretty slim. I'd probably prefer us to get established higher up the league this season, than go on a decent run in the FA Cup but ultimately not win it anyway. Obviously winning the cup, and staying up, even in 17th place, would equate to arguably our most successful season since 1937, but as a more realistic achievable objective, a comfortable top half finish has to be the main one for this season.

If we can keep this form up anything above tenth I'll be over the moon with. The likes of Villa and especially Spurs will be very very tough to compete with.

Yes, Just looked and the supposed `big 4` have won 21 of the last 24 cups. Thats depressing.

Re: How do you envisage things come May time?
We have done the hard part by getting the points of the better teams in the league now we just need to do, what would be the easy part if we wern't sunderland, and beat the lesser sides in the league and we would find our selves in a very commanding position towards the end of the season and we would have an excellent chance. But I think these next 4 fixtures are very important and could define our season.

Re: How do you envisage things come May time?
No chance of us being ahead of Spurs Man city Man utd Chelsea and Arsenal.
A slight chance of us being ahead of Liverpool.
Still less than 50 per cent to be ahead of Villa and Everton.
Bolton and Stoke will challenge. but we should claw our way past those two at least.
That would put us about 9th...with an outside chance of being as high as seventh.
So to be optimistic I'd say eighth with about 54 points. Which would be a great season.

We're still only four points off third and six points off 18th. The league is mad in the middle.

Everton will do the domestic treble, win the Champions League and become World Club Champions.
