    Default 15th April 1989

    RIP YNWA

We continue to fight for justice.

Also, I am aware the two links above are well known, but the RAWK section devoted to Hillsborough is, for me, the best resource of personal accounts, reflection, poetry and news.

I have searched but could not find another thread made this evening. If there is, I apologise and would request this be merged, thank you.

Blokes going to a football match and never coming back. It's fucking unthinkable.

RIP. Could have been any one of us.

It's a shitty world, with a shitty history. All essentially involve human error. Whether it's poor decision making by football fans and police, or bombers missing their target, or the decision to attack civilian areas as well as industry areas, or failing to avoid an iceberg. Or even deciding to kill hundreds of people simply because they came from the same country as the enemy.

Agreed and before this turns into a blame thread which no doubtly will do at some point let's not forget Hillsborough, Heysel, Valley Parade and Ibrox, lads lasses of various ages some the same age as yourself never came home from a football match.

Remembering them on the actual day is absolutely fine. They did just go to a football game like all of us and never went home.

I knew one guy who died. Joe McCarthy. We were in the same Hall of Residence at Sheffield University - Sorby Hall. He was President of the Union there

I will make no bones about it but we did not like each other and did not really get on but that is by the by. He was a young guy with a very bright future who went to a game and it was all wiped out.

He was not supposed to go that day. His flatmate could not make it so called on the morning and said take my ticket.

    RIP Joe McCarthy

I was in Sheffield that night and it was absolutely awful. I stayed at the flat of some Uni pals one of whom wrote the following book much of which is about Hillsborough and as a student made The Sunday Times reporting on it

The one someone posted on here a few weeks ago about Bolton (I think) in 1950 where there was a crush, game stopped while they sorted things out. Put the dead people next to the touchline and the carried on playing.

    Unbelievable what can happen sometimes.
