    Default Nuts

Hats the, ahem, crack with nuts, diet wise? You always read things saying they are really good for you but the fat content on the packets are massive

Don't understand how they can be healthy if a handful is 20grams of fat

i love people who answer questions with questions, theyre class.

loads of people on this board seem to to do it in a really annoying arrogant way.

most people assume fat is bad, its all over the tv and in adverts. low fat products are always promoted as the healthy choice, so dont be suprised when people automatically assume fat is the devil. There is no need for people to ask all snobby about the fact u have previously done some nutritional research and feed the facts to people one nut sized bite at a time.

Do you mean in a "healthy" diet? Or a "weight reducing" diet?

From what I understand, several types of nuts are full of mono-unsaturated fat and this type of fat helps you rid yourself of the bad type of cholesterol. Almonds are one of the good guys. But as ever I would guess it is all things in moderation.

Walnuts are very high in omega-3 oils which are considered to be in the "good guys" category of the fat world.

Peanuts as well, as long as they aren't salted, and they now even say peanut butter, as long as it is over 90-95% peanut content, and better still if it's also made with peanut (or groundnut which apparently is the same stuff) oil

They do have a high calorific content though

    That aimed at me??

Wasn't intending to do that just thought there might be a reason he didn't want the fat. One nut sized bite won't get you fat!

Anyway fats are an essential macronutrient I think the fat is bad stuff tends to come from the fact that a gram of fat is 9kcal and goes back to the cutting calorie diets.

Your body actually needs fat and protein thy are essentials. They can both actually be converted by the body into a fuel source.

The government and food companies are a joke when it comes to nutrition.

Depends very much on your goals, for instance if you are bulking up , some people grow better by having very little fats but others like to keep fat high whilst bulking and cut it down later on, pritty easy to do just bang some olive oil in your lunch or carry around some walnuts with you, or even spread some peanut butter on some ryvita's but make sure its the organic stuff
