Does anyone know what the crack is with taking your own drink on board?

I’ve heard stories of old biddies pouring bottles of sprite down the drain and refilling with spirits 100 yards from the gangplank as some cruise firms are so strict with there policies. Whereas others will happily let you bring your own bottles of wine etc on for consumption in your own cabin for a small surcharge.

    Anyone got any ideas? I don’t fancy racking up a £400 drinks bill in a week @ £20 a bottle of wine, £8 a vodka & £4 per lager!!!

    Gan all inclusive with Thomsons

RCI were a crazy price out of barcelona it was cracking onto a fiver with add ons for a pint. P+O not badly priced tho. Plastic bottles of duty free escape the notice of scanner--well they did for me on NCL

havent been on one but could you not just chuck some vodka in your case so they don't see it. Plus your bound to have stop offs where in theory you could buy spirits as presents and they wouldn't have a right to stop you taking on board. I could well be wrong mind

We are thinking of doing a criuse next year and have got a brochure from celebrity cruises, it says in the small print, any booze you try to take on board, or any you buy on stopovers in ports, or any you buy from the duty free onboard will be taken off you and given back the night before the criuse ends.

Is Correct. They have a very strict policy (as you well might when your charging neck end of £10 for a vodka & coke on board). Some firms are stricter than others, some have more stringent security than others (all baggage is scanned).

Thompsons = Not for me like but nevermind.

I,ve cruised many times with P&O and have never had a problem with taking a couple of bottles of wine on board. I always buy a bottle of the local wine at every port and had no problems taking it on board. It's the one's abusing that they look out for and yes everything is scanned when you come back on board from a port visit.
