It was only ever a political measure that was never going to generate any significant revenue.

Outrageous that anyone should have to pay 50% tax.

Higher taxes never work anyway. If you're earning a very high salary then you invariably have your accountants find loopholes and tax avoidance schemes so you don't pay as much anyway.

The more you try and make people pay, the more they will find ways not to pay it.

You have to find the right balance so people don't feel the need to try and avoid being taxed in the first place.

Unless you're name is Vodafone of course and then the tax office will just left you off paying a few billion.

And how much income tax did you pay to any government last year?

How much of my salary went straight into the coffers of various Governments?

    Far far too much.

As you pay French taxes can I assume that you're going to be at work tomorrow?

It's outrageous that anyone earns enough to qualify to pay it. The minimum wage in this country is under £6 per hour and employers still complain that it's too high hence the government importing immigrants to the Nth degree to keep it as low as possible "to keep our industry competitive".
Every single tax loophole needs closing and every tax haven forced out of business.
The economy would recover quickly enough then.

Conservative think-tank says taxing high earners is wrong.

    I'm shocked, I really am.

You only reach the 50% tax rate when you earn something like £150k. All its doing is bringing the upper and lower classes closer together.
