Is there a decent way to avoid the north bound side between the Angel and the Metro Centre? Travel from Durham to Gosforth area at about 17:30 on Monday and Tuesday and that part of the road can put another 30 minutes onto my commute, it's a right pain in the arse.
    Thanks

Not an option, it would be bus - train - metro - walk

Or Birtley,Lamesley,Team Valley,Dunston, Metro Centre,Scotswood Bridge, then join A1 next to B&Q at Scotswood.

Not great but better than being in a car park.
They are the only realistic alternatives unless you go though Stanley or Consett.

Keep on the bypass , it's better since the 50mph limit came into effect.
