The only thing you really need is a good pair of running shoes. It's well known that the flasher the gear the more unfit you are and are only a poser

    A Muscle vest?

Will I not look a bit daft like with my gut protruding, or have they all got them on?

maybe use it as something to aim for in that case!

Seriously though, the most important thing is that you're comfortable. Something not restrictive, and that you can breath in. Don't want to have to keep pulling the shirt away because it's sticking to you!

I quite like anything adidas for the gym, got a couple of these t-shirts that I love, picked them up at dalton park for about a tenner

As Graeme says, cheap Adidas gear from outlets is ideal, 5er a t-shirt. You only soak them in sweat anyway. Is there any running shops near by who could asses your feet and help you out with finding the right trainers for you? Or you could go hardcore like me a get some fivefingers
