Invalid Ms - Dos function?

I posted a thresd the other day and I have taken the advice and got myself a live WD media player!

I have an old 80gb external and just to test the kit out I tried to copy some movies onto the external however, I recieve the invaild ms - dos function and it will not copy. Anyone know why I am getting this and what I can do to fix it? I have formatted it but still dont work.

If nowt works will buy a larger external, would imagine that they have newer drives and software installed?
