Default Are the new fair play financial rules giving Sunderland a chance to move up the table

I have noticed that it is getting easier for club's coming up and staying in the PL as well as the fall of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal from the top 3. With the likes of Spurs moving up the table over the past couple of years.

Are club's not going to be able to buy our young talent in the North-East like they use too? Are clubs going to hang on to players longer in all leagues? Thoughts?

I see football markets changing with these new rules. I also see less European Spots available as the top English club's can not huge squads anymore thus other European leagues getting better. Am I not seeing these markets clearly?

I would love other view points...

I'd say Martin O'neill is giving Sunderland the chance to move up the table

Well we could fall foul of the new rules if we don't lower our wage bill

I think its wider than that. Arsenal are paying for the Emirates, so they sacrificed short term goals for it, however that has meant not effectivly replacing leaving stars, whilst teams below them (such as us and Newcastle) are always making little progress every year catching up. Chelsea can't really rely on massive singings unless they do City style sponsorship deals. Plus their stars are heading towards the end of their careers and not many proper replacements have been found. Liverpool have tried to spend big while they still can, but the singings they've made havn't all panned out like they'd hoped. Still a top 4 challenging team, but not as strong as previous years.

The emergence of Spurs also threw a spanner in the works of some teams, as well as the money of City. That top 4 became a top 6 which now looks to mean two of the old top 4 may regularly miss out on the money of Champions League football. Some stars will move away because of that, allowing teams under the top 6 to catch up some more. Now seems like a top 3 breakaway as we're closer to 19th than 3rd, points wise.

This fair play financial idea is a great idea in theory. The trouble is that we all know the rules will be bent and loopholes will be found so that the big boys don't suffer

    Not really.

In years gone by it might've helped, but now we have a billionaire owner the FFP rules are a hinderance since he can't put any more money in.

Doubt it. Massive investment coming from deals being made in Africa as we speak.

That works both ways. Chelsea can not put more money into it. Are they going to crash and burn?

It means Man U, Liverpool & City can spend more than everyone else forever, as they have global suppport (or dodgy sponsorship deals). Might make it less competetive in the long term.

The rules are bad news, clubs with higher turnover can spend more than clubs with lower turnover meaning the likes of United will be locked in place at the top of the league forever.

There should just be a wage and transfer fee cap tbh.
