    Default Optimism versus pessimism!

Have always considered myself an optimist and probably always will be.
However I'm getting right pissed off with this glass always half full, look on the bright side malarkey
If I do a shitty job, chore or just get a basically crap day, and just take out the positives and make it seem better. All the miserable gets think I get all the fun.
Should I become a pessimist and moan about everything?

My Dad said always to expect the worst, then when it happens you were expecting it. If it doesn't happen, you will be happy.

    This seems wrongish.

I go around thinking everything will be fine. Is this just simplistic or am I an optimist?

What pisses me off is when people in an optimism vs pessimism debate refer to themselves as "realists".

As though their own state of mind is 100% perfectly rational and should be used a barometer for everyone else's optimistic or pessimistic states of relative delusion to be guaged against.

    I prefer guaging.

Ah, but the pessimist wouldn't be happy. They'd be fretting about why the worst didn't happen, thinking 'it'll be twice as bad when it happens now...'

Are things more likely to go wrong for pessimists because their outlook predisposes them to believing them they'll go wrong anyway?
