Default Iain Duncan Smith & the work experience scheme.

He considers those who oppose the government's back to work scheme as modern day Luddites.
As mentioned on this board before private companies such as tesco, Boots and Primark employ people to do non skilled work, such as shelf stacking for their jobseekers allowance & expenses.
As an illustration of how out of touch with reality he is he believes that people are against it because they find shelf stacking demeaning!!!
Does this pillock honestly think if jobs were made available in any of these companies in the North, even at minimum wage, they would not be inundated with applicants?
In an interview he even comes out with this shite "Meanwhile, we are caught in a battle between those who think young people should work only if they are able to secure their dream job".
He goes on "Anyone who is gulled by those who believe in the first path is in danger of creating a society with a twisted culture that thinks being a celebrity or appearing on The X Factor is the only route worth pursuing in life".
    What a grade A prick.
Here's a link to the full interview.

I think its fair enough tbh.

If you sign on for more than 12 months then work for your benefits in a work placement.

Would make the jobs more like litter picking, painting fences and other community work though rather than these big companies not employing people who are actually looking for retail/shop work.

Exactly. Not working for private companies doing work that should employ people in real jobs.

Working for a company like Tesco's is not community work, it's exploitation
don't get too comfy in that job you have, it's not guaranteed for life, you too may have to do this if things go tits up, which they look like doing.

I can see your point if it is community related, but no way in the fucking world should any company be able to employ staff for nowt. Regardless of the skill level involved. If they need staff, fucking well hire them.

This. Tesco especially can surely afford to pay folk the minimum wage.

"The firms who have offered work experience to young people on this scheme have been absolutely brilliant".
It's been fantastically kind of them to employ/exploit them for nowt!

That's what I said in my post. Companies like Tesco's etc should hire people wanting to work in that industry and not people off the dole doing placement work.

Believe me, I am not secure in my job due to the industry I am in and I'm actively job seeking myself as I won't be in this job in the next 3 months marra. However, I will grab any job I can if I do end up out of work

Do you honestly believe that faced with a minimum wage shelf stacking job there are not hundreds of people in the north east who would rather stick with their generous benefits package?
