    Default New camera advice

I know there have been a few threads before on this subject, but thought I'd start another anyway...

I'm looking to buy a new digital camera, and want something decent (obviously), but nothing that's going to essentially be wasted on day to day snaps and the like.

I've had a look at a few DSLR cameras, and have come to the conclusion that they would probably be a bit 'overkill'. While I would like something 'next level', I'm not sure that I should be looking at a DSLR - or should I?

    Any recommendations anyone?

You should spend at least 2 months wages on one.

Do you think I'd get away with 'but someone on the SMB said so' when telling Mrs Tomma that I'd spent two months wages on a camera?!!

Seriously though - is it as simple as being a case of 'you get what you pay for' with cameras?

Clearly you've been to the Mrs Tomma school of economics as well.

as long as you don't go on a megapixel hunt "bigger is better" bollocks.

i'll leave it to the more informed on here but i'd recomend a "bridge" camera...not a compact, not a dslr.

dslr's are great but to big to carry everywhere, a smaller bridge camera you can sling in the mrs bag

To be honest I think that's the danger to a simpleton like myself when it comes to these things. Will find out a bit more about bridge cameras though - thanks for the advice.

No probs, i've really just passed on what i've learned from some of the more knowledgeable on the SMB.

Bridge is deffo the way i'd go though, even now I have a DSLR that I love but my next camera will be a bridge that will take a cracking photo but be more practical.

Megapixels.... who the fuck had heard of a mega-whatever 10 years ago?

Just started to have a look at some 'Bridge' cameras - these seem to be the right kind of thing I'm looking for.
First impressions of the Canon Powershot G10 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 are good - will keep looking though.
    Cheers for the advice.
