Default Nigel Spink - Credit Where It's Due

I think we're all in agreement that the signing of Simon Mignolet is looking like an absolute bargain, and the credit for his signing has to go to Nigel Spink.

Steve Bruce said at the time that the recommendation to sign Mignolet came from Spink, who originally did all the scouting homework on him and went out to Belgium to watch him play numerous times.

Also, Gordon, who was no doubt playing very well even before Spink started coaching him, seems to have improved another level based on last seasons performances under the coaching of Spink.

Often the backroom staff don't get enough credit, but I feel that the role Nigel Spink is playing at SAFC shouldn't be overlooked.

    Agreed.

Spink was my goalkeeping hero as a kid after his perfomance for Villa in the European Cup after coming on as sub.

Agree, he turned Gordon from a good keeper to a very very good keeper and now has spotted Mignolet who is looking like a cracking prospect

Certainly a lack of 'lets sign David James' threads recently.

I still can't believe people on here advocating bringing James in to cover Gordon's injury a few weeks after we'd signed a new #2.

Chris Kirkland has seemingly gone downhill since Spink left Wigan anarl.
