Chester-le-Street
My birthplace but I wonder what the fuck is the matter with it these days. I like a drink and some of my favourite watering holes are the Derry, the Blandford, Sinatra's (Sunderland), the Star, the Black Garter, the Clock (Newcastle). Some rough pubs there but I only get shit in Chester. Anyone care to explain?

I'm from CLS as well and always had more trouble there than I did in Newcastle, Sunderland or Durham.
There's always drinkers coming into Chester from Birtley, Shiney Row, Pelton etc and it always made a bad mix.
I moved away years ago and whenever I go back, it looks run down.

Re: Chester-le-Street
When I first started going out there it was rammed in the Black Horse, High Crown, Queen's Head etc. Now they're pretty much empty at 8pm.

Run down? Try Stanley mate!!!
There used to be a late bus back from Chester to Stanley, which was pulled as the drivers were having so much trouble on it up to Pelton. Bit of a bugger, as I lost a good last late bus all the way from Sunderland (the bus started there) right through to Stanley due to that.
Chester-le-Street was always one place that regularly got mentioned when I heard about trouble kicking off.

it carried on out the front of the pub then back round to the beer garden bit round the back again

Re: Chester-le-Street
always been the same - we lived in Birtley and never ever had any bother in newcastle but head 3 miles south to Chester and you could guarantee it. Too many knackers from Lumley, Segga, Pelton, Ouston etc

Re: Chester-le-Street
Tbh when I started drinking there over 30 years ago every night of the weekend was like the wild west, all the villages fighting against each other. Then it mellowed a bit and became a cracking place to drink and loads of people from up to 25 mile away would come for a night out.
Last 10 year or so it's dropped right off and now full of gyps, chavs and the local pisspots who'd fight anybody at the drop of a hat. The pubs are empty except for a handful at the top end of the street but tbh, much better places to drink now than there. Shame really as used to be a top night out.
