How much was fuel when you passed your test?

I passed in 1991 and I refused to stop on the motorway for fuel cause it was too expensive at 49.9ppl. Oh how I wish it was that price again. How much did you pay???

I remember thinking that if petrol reached a pound a gallon I would buy a bike.

I also remember saying something similar when tabs hit a pound a pack.

Early 80's for me, petrol was still in gallons and it cost me under £15 to fill up my knacked Ford Escort.

Mid seventies 36 penny’s for 20 no 6 fags, and 36 penny’s for a gallon of petrol (about 7 penny’s a litre)

Passed my test in 1985 and bought my first car in 1986....a shitty Austin Metro which I managed to write off before the end of the year. As for the cost of fuel back then, absolutely no idea. The weird thing is that I've just come out of hospital having had an operation to fix my nose that I broke after headbutting the steering wheel of the aforementioned car during the aforementioned write-off.

passed my test in 92 but cant remember what the price was, however I do remember the fuel blockades in Autumn 2000 when the price was hiked up from 72p to 79p.

Petrol was 45 pence a litre.

What is it nowadays - I dont live in the UK?

When I moved to Thailand I decided to make life more affordable on a considerably reduced salary that I wouldn't run a car. On the few occasions I actually need a car I just hire one.

I now get about on a 115 ccYamaha Nouvo and pay around 37 baht (around 82 pence) a litre of unleaded fuel. Roughly works out at around 50 quid a month in fuel costs.
