Unless the ranking system has changed, there's no question about it, is there?

He's the most consistent player out there at the moment. On the leaderboard at just about every competition he enters and has been in the top three at most of the recent Majors. No other player at the moment can match that so that ranks him No 1 in the World. Can't see where the argument is.
Some players might hit some excellent form over a weekend and pick up a Major title but they can't do it on a regular basis, being in with a shout at every Major competition is an amazing feat and shouldn't be belittled. He's not being proclaimed as an all time world best but over the last twelve months there are none that can match his consistency at the top level.

Technically correct but h'way man, coming 2nd or 3rd all the time does not make you the best player in the world.

Agreed, it's a hollow title he has.

because the true test of a golfer is how they deal with the pressure of the worlds glare in the majors.

ask someone in 20 years how good Westwood was and they will say the nearly man of his time. ask them about Woods and they will say he was the greatest ever sportsman

That's probably true, but why are all the golfers who are better than him finishing below him in tournaments more often than not?

i think he will win one next season. he has been in the top three a few times and unlike monty, i feel he will win at least one major.
