Why do police get a job for life

When military, ambulance, nurses, surgeons, doctors and so on don't. Thats one thing i've never understood. Maybe thats why some think their above the law because they cant get fired and when they try and introduce it they march in london and the government backs down.

Ok but surely a rule introduced in 1920 is a bit out of date for the 21st century. Especially when everyones job is at risk.

They don't. They are subject to disciplinary measures like the rest of us and can be sacked, despite what the papers say. Even if they have a perfect record, they have to retire at a certain age because physically they won't be up to the job.

Doctors and nurses can work on until they retire at the normal retirement age, so where are you getting your information from?
