    Default SAFC.com Q and R ground roundup

    Quote:
Queens Park Rangers - Loftus Road
The Hoops have entertained Sunderland 13 times, with the Black Cats only prevailing on three occasions and honours being even three times.
Sunderland's last visit to Loftus Road was in November 2006, under Roy Keane. He watched his team run out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Grant Leadbitter and Daryl Murphy.
Mick McCarthy guided Sunderland to their biggest away win over QPR, during 2005's promotion-winning campaign. The Lads fought back from 1-0 down to snatch all three points after Julio Arca, Andy Welsh and Chris Brown helped turn the game around.

Kevin Ball was sent off at Loftus Road during the 2-2 draw in January 1999, he has also scored a penalty at the ground in the 1990 defeat.
Another Sunderland player to see red at QPR was Micky Horswill. Fresh from their 1973 FA Cup win, Sunderland were beaten 3-0 at Loftus Road with Horswill being shown a red card in the encounter.
    Shirley not?

Apart from the fact they didn't have red cads in those days, I could have sworn that game was at Roker. Maybe I was in some sort of twilight zone.

It was at Roker. The Stan Bowles cup incident game presumably (I'm too young to have been there)

I remember an interview with some cockey manc that said he hated us and had tried to knock the FA Cup over by hitting a ball at it whilst warming up. Im pretty sure he also said they thrashed us and someone got sent off.

Yep, that was the game. I was there.

Stokoe had to appeal tot he crowd to stay off the pitch.

You'd think safc.com would get it right!

I remember the night well, it was supposed to be a carnival atmosphere but Bowles and the ref combined to make it a totally different sort of night. Neither team had anything to play for and we thought it was going to be exhibition stuff but fans ran on the pitch, one lad tried to deck the ref (shame he didn't manage it!). Terrible terrible night in Sunderland's history especially after such a great day out at Wembley.

Aye, they changed it last time, the lad who pointed it out to them posted here that he wasn't happy as they didn't even say thanks.

Probably blame him for them making the mistake in the 1st place tbh.

Definately Roker Park. I was there (in the clock stand for some reason - usually stood int eh Fullwell) one of their players knocked the FA cup over (didn't realise it was Bowles). Even though we got beat 3-0 it still couldn't dampen the atmosphere and the general good mood the cup win provided.
